Fly to Hidden France - the Cévennes Mountains

Find cheap airfare to France which receives more visitors than any other country, yet many beautiful spots remain hidden, and few more so than the Cévennes mountains.

For Parisians, the Cévennes is still the place described by the great 19th-century French historian Jules Michelet: "The Cévennes offer rock, nothing but rock, razor-sharp shale. You feel the struggle of man, his stubborn and prodigious labour in the face of nature."

And it is true that everywhere you go in La Vallée Française, you see evidence of this struggle. You see it written on the landscape: in the dry stone walls and the terraces carved out of the steep hillsides; in the beautiful sweet chestnut groves that still march over so many of those terraces.

Airfare to Greece - What does the Greek Economic Crisis Mean to Visitors?

Find cheap flights to Athens, Greece. The Greek economy is in critical condition. Stories about the Greek government's austerity plans–and the strikes to protest it–are headline new in Europe. So what does the Greek economic crisis mean for a visitor to Greece?

The Greek financial situation has helped push down the value of the euro against the dollar, making a visit to Greece, or anywhere in the European Union (EU), relatively less expensive for Americans. An EU bailout of Greece could hurt economic recovery throughout Europe and potentially elsewhere. But for the moment, Greece's economic woes have dampened prices and made the country less expensive for foreign visitors. As long as the crisis remains primarily economic, bargain seeking visitors are likely to consider Greece as a destination in 2010.

Travel to Malaysia Where Hospitality Is Winning Hearts and Minds Amidst Volcanic Ashes

Cheap flights to Malaysia where there have been 16,000 stranded passengers on the waiting list for flights to and from Europe, which may take up to mid-May to clear. What does airport operator Malaysia Airports do with passengers low on cash and long on boredom for days, with nothing to do on end but wait for better news, stranded at the country's premier airport, KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport)?

Malaysia Airports, together with the Tourism Ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall jointly lifted spirits by giving them a free day city tour. "We did not have money to go out of KLIA while waiting for our flight, so when the announcement was made, I immediately said yes," said Briton James Richardson.

Travel to Kyoto, Japan

Are you looking for cheap airfare to Japan? Kyoto, the former imperial capital of Japan, is a vibrant mash-up, an ancient city electrified by the breathtakingly new. Cruise the futuristic food halls of a department store, gaping at the perfect fruit and glistening sea creatures, before zipping up to the traditional floor, with its kimonos and tea ceremony implements. See 2,000 ancient temples and shrines, then dine at a sleekly modern restaurant. Glimpse a geisha gliding down a cobblestone lane, bracketed by wooden machiya houses, and feel yourself catapulted to the 18th century — until you see her duck into a very 21st-century taxi, with a passenger door that opens and shuts automatically.

Though it’s mobbed by tourists during cherry blossom season (late March to early April), Maruyama Park in Gion is a tranquil spot the rest of the year. Start at the vivid white-and-orange Yasaka Shrine, where locals pray to the god of prosperity and health, and then wend your way through the park past ponds, gardens and a gigantic weeping cherry. Be sure to detour through the surreal hillside cemetery, its terraced maze of gravestones resembling a miniature city. The views are spectacular.

Flights Take Off but Ash Limits Scandinavia

Find cheap airfare to Norway and Sweden where European airports sent thousands of planes into the sky Thursday after a week of unprecedented disruptions, but shifting winds sent a new plume of volcanic ash over Scandinavia, forcing some airports in Norway and Sweden to close again.

The new airspace restrictions applied to northern Scotland and parts of southern Norway, Sweden and Finland, said Kyla Evans, spokeswoman for Eurocontrol, the European air traffic agency.

But nearly all of the continent's 28,000 other scheduled flights, including more than 300 flights on lucrative trans-Atlantic routes, were expected to proceed. Every plane was packed, however, as airlines squeezed in some of the hundreds of thousands of travelers who had been stranded for days among passengers with regular Thursday tickets.

Cheap Flights to China - Foreign Influence in Shanghai

Travel to Shanghi, China’s most cosmopolitan of cities—and host of this year’s World Expo — where foreign residents have long had a defining role in the culture. Cafés and restaurants heave with foreigners, single white men crowd nightclubs such as the Glamour Bar, and new expat-run art galleries open almost monthly. Expensive primary schools led by expatriates are much sought after by rich Chinese families.

The small boutiques of Changle Lu are full of housewives shopping for Chinese-designed fashion. Schoolkids sip mochaccinos at the Starbucks in Xintiandi, a few yards away from the historic building where the Chinese Communist Party was founded in 1921. On Sunday mornings, young expat families brunch on the terrace of M on the Bund, Shanghai’s first fine-dining Western-style restaurant, framed against the pink TV tower and other kitschy buildings of Pudong across the Huangpu River. You can see expats shopping for bargains at illegal DVD stores, where a pirated box set of The Sopranos retails for $10.

Traveling to Hungary - A District Is Reborn in Budapest

Cheap airfare is available to Budapest, Hungary where for years, the eighth district was considered one of the worst in Budapest. Decimated during World War II and still pocked by bullets from the 1956 Hungarian revolution, the district — also known as Jozsefvaros or Joseph Town — was synonymous with theft and prostitution.

But things began to turn around. In 2000, after security cameras were installed, burglaries and other crimes declined significantly. Soon galleries, cafes and night life arrived, drawn to the district’s grand 19th-century architecture and cheap rents.

Today, the area — on the Pest side of the Danube and one of the city’s 23 districts —has become a magnet for Budapest’s trendy bohemians, mixing soulful chic and shabby bourgeois, though not all nefarious behavior has vanished, chiefly in the district’s eastern pocket.

Travel to Africa - Marrakesh's Stylish Transformation

If you're looking for cheap airfare to Africa this North African city of medieval souks and winding streets is undergoing a dramatic transformation. There are now several hundred riad hotels, each trying to out-design the next, and the big international brands—Mandarin Oriental, Four Seasons—are building resorts beyond the medina.

Marrakesh is essentially two cities: the medina, as the ancient walled Arab metropolis is called, and Guéliz, the name given to the part of town created by the French in 1913. South of Guéliz lies the residential neighborhood of Hivernage. While Guéliz has been somewhat overshadowed in the past decade by the rise of the medina, it is currently enjoying a bit of a renaissance itself. With its aging Art Deco villas, broad streets, and roundabouts, Guéliz is Morocco at its most Western. A symbol of the area’s revival is the year-old Bab Hotel, a mini-Delanoesque homage to the Philippe Starck aesthetic: oversize flowerpots, billowy curtains, cool white public spaces. Its pebbled half-indoor/half-outdoor garden by the pool is a perfect spot for lunch, and the top-floor Skybab Bar, set with lounging mattresses, draws the cocktail crowd in the evenings.

Cheap Airfare to Dublin

If you are traveling to Dublin on Ryanair, the stupidest idea to come along in ages looks to have gone down the drain, literally. Last week Michael O’Leary, ceo of the Irish budget carrier Ryanair, said he would install pay toilets for use on short-haul European flights, but the cockamamie scheme turned out to have been more than a piddling matter. A stream of invective followed the announcement in the press.

The latest news: Boeing, which built Ryanair’s fleet of 737-800s, has put the kibosh on the plan for safety reasons, leaving O’Leary up a yellow river without a paddle. In addition to charging one euro to use the facilities, O’Leary had planned to remove some of the existing toilets and replace them with additional seats. But the airline’s planes already are configured for 189 passengers, the most that can be carried safely. Because the planes were made in America, any reconfiguration by Boeing to increase the number of passengers would be subject to FAA approval, which would be unlikely.

Travel Chaos and Massive Air Traffic Disruption across the UK

Looking for cheap airfare to Glasgow or Edinburgh? Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports were shut as Nats said it was restricting flights "in accordance with international civil aviation policy". The ash cloud disrupted all flights to and from Manchester with a similar picture at Newcastle airport where all arrivals were cancelled and all outbound flights either cancelled or subject to indefinite delay. In Scotland all airports are shut and most others around the UK cancelled or suspended flights.

Passengers were advised to contact their carriers prior to travel to the UK. The Air Traffic Control Service (Nats) imposed restrictions after the Met Office warned ash could damage engines.

Experts have warned that the tiny particles of rock, glass and sand contained in the ash cloud would be sufficient to jam aircraft engines.

Travel to Belfast in Northern Ireland

Find cheap airfare to Belfast. It's festival time in the capital of Northern Ireland, a destination that's trying to shake off its troubled past. Even when this city was on its knees in the direst days of the 30-year Troubles, it could always fake a swagger. Today it thrives on a rich combination of hospitality and humour.

The giant cranes bestriding the docklands bear the legend H&W, the iconic symbol of Harland and Wolff, in whose shipyard was built the ill-fated Titanic. But barmen and taxi drivers will tell you that H&W is, in fact, Belfast's proclamation of "Hello and Welcome".

Flights to Bangkok - Another Vision of Bangkok

Cheap airfare to Bangkok, where poverty might be an eyesore of the Thai goverment, but it cannot be denied its existence. Despite rising living standards for an increasing number of inhabitants in Bangkok over the last decade, it can’t be denied that poverty is still present in the capital.

The company proposes a new "Explore" tour to embark on a journey into Klong Toey District, home to Bangkok’s largest slum in the capital city. The shanty town has been there for about 50 years and is made largely from rural migrants from northeast Thailand who came to Bangkok for job opportunities. But in contrary to other slums around the world, Klong Toey’s narrow alleyways are equipped with basic amenities such as electricity, gas, and some modern conveniences.

Airfare to Tokyo

Are you looking for cheap airfare to Tokyo, Japan? Navigating the world’s largest metropolis—home to almost 13 million people—can be a daunting prospect for visitors. Tokyo’s maze of neighborhoods seems to offer up every imaginable sight and sound—some of them cacophonous and modern (speeding bullet trains; herds of hurrying, be-suited businessmen; bizarrely futuristic toilets), and some of them ancient (centuries-old shrines and temples; the waddling combat of sumo wrestlers). The trick here is to explore one enclave at a time; for instance, starting in Ginza or Shibuya for shopping, then heading to Shinjuku or Roppongi for nightlife. And if you get lost, just ask for help—Tokyo residents are some of the politest city-dwellers in the world.

Cheap Flights to Australia - Crews Begin Moving Oil From Carrier Stuck on Great Barrier Reef

Salvage crews at a damaged coal carrier stuck on Australia's Great Barrier Reef began pumping fuel oil Friday from the stricken vessel onto another barge to carry it away and prevent it from leaking onto the delicate reef.

Patrick Quirk, general manager of Maritime Safety Queensland, said inflatable booms were in place around the vessels to trap and contain any oil that may spill during the procedure.

"This is a delicate operation that will take days, not hours," Quirk said in a statement. "We're not going to rush into this operation. We want to manage the risk and manage it closely."

Traveling to Ireland - Use the Bathroom Before the Flight

If you are booking a flight to Ireland with Ryanair be sure to use the bathroom before you leave. Ryanair is to charge passengers to use on-board toilets. The Irish airline is planning to make its toilets coin-operated, forcing passengers to fork out $1.65 and $1.44 every time they want to spend a penny in the sky.

"By charging for the toilets we are hoping to change passenger behaviour so that they use the bathroom before or after the flight,'' Ryanair spokesman Stephen McNamara told the UK’s Daily Mail.

"That will enable us to remove two out of three of the toilets and make way for at least six extra seats.''

Cheap Airfare to Argentina

Travel to west Argentina were situated in San Juan province, the oasis town of Barreal has grown in the corridor between the Andes and the precordillera, creating a sheltered microclimate and its own pace of life. Here, dirt roads carry as many bicycles as cars, and "downtown" is a scattering of low-rise detached houses and time-warp grocery stores. Only adventurous outsiders have been charmed so far, but that could change, especially since the town is just a five-hour drive from Mendoza city, centre of the wine region.

Barreal is renowned for having ultra-clear, pollution-free skies for around 300 days of the year. Parque Nacional El Leoncito has two astronomical observatories, with Complejo Astronómico El Leoncito the largest of the two, offering evening tours where you get to check out their prized 40-ton telescope and stargaze with the experts. You can even stay the night, providing you don't mind sterile rooms and communal dining that hark back to school field trips.

Cheap Travel to South America

If you are traveling to South America, the famed Inca citadel of Machu Picchu reopened to tourists Thursday after a two-month closure due to floods that washed out the rail link to the mountaintop ruins.

Peru's No. 1 tourist site had been shut down since late January, when heavy rains disrupted the rail link from the city of Cuzco and trapped some 4,000 tourists, many of whom had to be rescued with helicopters.

Workers have now finished rehabilitating the last 17 miles (28 kilometers) of the tracks, though service has not been restored all the way to Cuzco. Officials have said the entire route is not expected to reopen until June. Until then, tourists can travel by bus from Cuzco to Piscachuco and from there by train to Machu Picchu Pueblo at the base of the ruins.

Cheap Flights to Rome

Rome’s dramatic physique, from her majestic antiquities to her sinuous baroque curves, has been thrown into even higher relief by a modern trend that has made its presence felt in a major way: in hotels, restaurants, and shops that have adopted a more current, international aesthetic. Traditionalists needn’t worry, however—Rome is still very much enamored of her past, and you can find old-school establishments all over town if you know where to look. While the Colosseum and the Vatican still loom large in the skyline and identity of Rome, you’ll discover the true soul of the city away from the big sights—in neighborhood coffee bars and trattorias, and from riders of Vespas exchanging boisterous greetings while passing on cobblestone backstreets.

Fly to Asia and Stay in a Familiar U.S. Hotel Chain

If you're purchasing a ticket for a trip to Asia, it is beginning to look a lot more like America—at least when it comes to hotels.

Major United States hotel chains are aggressively expanding into Asia, creating new options for travelers looking for familiar brands abroad. Starwood Hotels & Resorts plans to open 34 to 40 properties in the Asia Pacific region this year, or about three hotels a month, including the first St. Regis in Japan, the first W in Thailand and the first Le Méridien in Taiwan. Hilton plans to open new hotels in Japan and China by year-end. And Marriott will add about 20 properties, including four JW Marriott properties in India, four Courtyard by Marriott properties in China, and a Ritz-Carlton in Shanghai.

Fly to London to See Kensington Palace's Interactive Makeover

Princess Diana's former home, Kensington Palace, was re-branded "The Enchanted Palace" on Friday, March 26, 2010 to lure tourists from other popular London sights, such as Madame Tussauds waxworks and the Tower of London, where the Crown Jewels are displayed (behind thick glass).

In this interactive age, it's not enough for a stately palace to offer royal art, staid banquet rooms and roped-off thrones, so curators have opted for fashion, performance art and a bit of Alice in Wonderland fantasy.

The two-years exhibit, meant to draw viewers into the lives of past residents, uses lighting, actors and musicians to set the mood. One man even coaxes sound from a saw with a violin bow.
